Service unavailable until 8am on Wednesday 26 August 2020

The driving test booking service reopened on Friday 21 August 2020 for new bookings for the general public. The service is only taking bookings for the next 6 weeks.

The service had been closed since 20 March 2020 because of coronavirus (COVID-19), and DVSA had only been dealing with applications for emergency driving tests for critical workers during that time.

There has been unprecedented demand to use the service. By 8pm on Friday 21 August, the service had been visited almost 7 million times.

This has resulted in some people:

• having problems accessing the service

• not being able to complete their booking when they’ve accessed the service

DVSA apologises for the inconvenience this has caused.

DVSA is taking the service offline until 8am on Wednesday 26 August 2020 to carry out essential maintenance.

((Difficult to get a fuse for the plug these days) 😡 they have had since March to sort out maintenance? When you close the system and re-open it months later, I wonder what you might expect?))

This will help the service to cope with the increased demand from the public.

The services that will be unavailable are:

• book your driving test

• change your driving test appointment

• check your driving test appointment details

• cancel your driving test

Gareth Llewellyn, DVSA Chief Executive, said:

Coronavirus has severely impacted our business as usual operations, including by stopping driving tests in March. Since then DVSA have only been dealing with applications for emergency driving tests for critical workers. Following unprecedented demand for the driving test booking system with almost 7 million attempts to book a test when it opened, we need to carry out urgent maintenance so people can book tests. We have to close the booking service until Wednesday 26 August and are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
